1997 was an extraordinary and a highly politically charged period for Turkey. As a result of this, IHH was among the nongovernmental organizations targeted by those with their extraordinary political agenda. During this period, the head of our organization, Bülent Yıldırım was arrested and his house was searched on claims that he had arms. At the end of these searches, nothing was found. This was also confirmed in a court of law and Mr. Yıldırım was acquitted. The regarding arrest, when considered with respect to its consequence, confirmed our innocence and thus proved to be a positive development for our foundation.
